Your Clear Books Account is your personal, central hub. Think of it as your master login (your email and password) that gives you access to the entire Clear Books platform.


When you first sign up, you create this master account, and as the first step, you'll also add your first Business to it. This 'Business' is the specific company or entity you're managing, and you'll attach a product to it, like our Accounting or Payroll software (or both).

The great thing about this structure is its flexibility:

  • Multi-Business: From your single Clear Books account, you can create and manage multiple different businesses, all accessible from one login.
  • Collaboration: Other people can invite you to access their businesses. Businesses you're invited to join will be accessible from your Clear Books Account.

Even if you are an employee invited to join a business, when you set up your user access, you will create your own Clear Books Account. This account will then grant you access to the business, which would have been initially set up by another employee of your company.

Here’s how this structure works in practice:

  • Managing Your Clear Books Account: Your personal login information is separate from any single business. You can manage your Clear Books Account Settings, Security and Personal details



  • Switching Businesses: When you log in, you will be inside one of your businesses. To access any others, you simply use the drop-down selector in the main menu UI. This list is always available and shows all the businesses you own and any you've been invited to, allowing you to switch between them instantly.
